Description
This is one of my series of Eye on Ground paintings. As a leisure walker, one who does this as a creative exercise in order to study my surroundings, I make special note of the ground and capture vignettes of interests, whether rocks, or leaves, shadows, or pine bark, as this one is. I loved the rich, burnt sienna colors in the chips, the rocks in between, and the pine needles fallen at random in the mix.
On this particular morning, I was out for my hour’s ‘artist’s date,’ a time the artist takes just for him or herself to entertain the inner child once a week, to have a moment of solitude. In that time, I saw the pine straw bunched in a way that suggested a coded message to my imagination. I could almost image seeing the Greek letters, ‘chai’ and ‘rho,’ Christian symbols in nature.
