Sea-Lit: the Sperm Whale Era – Watercolor
I was so fortunate to have a fellow artist share his antique with me so I could paint the piece he would later sell on e-bay. This wooden cask stems from the days the sperm whale was hunted for his superior light-burning oil that made winter darkness bearable. This was stored probably before the time when hunting was regulated, while the whales were in abundance, and before the industry filling the need found a substitute for lamp oil.
