“Reclaimed (Old John Deere),” Pencil Drawing is one of my most exciting drawings. For this one, I went out on site and sat for hours on end, days at a time to capture the mechanical realities of this Old John Deere tractor. It had been left abandoned in a field on the outskirts of Fuquay-Varina.
I loved the way the vines had woven their fingertips all the way up and through the vehicle. It was as though the ground were reaching up to reclaim her own. A bit spooky, in a way, but entrancing to me. This was a time when I was fully engaged as an artist. Pencil is one of my favorite media, as well.
